About Save Wise Living

A friendly, simple cartoon illustration of a small, approachable male character representing “Andy”. The character has short, light-blonde hair, a relaxed expression, and casual everyday clothing (jumper or hoodie). He is standing and holding a hand-drawn sign that says “Hi, I’m Andy”. Style is clean, modern, and warm — not childish, not corporate. Soft colours, minimal background, light UK-home feel. Flat illustration style, friendly and reassuring, suitable for a personal About page. No photorealism.

🏠 Home > About Save Wise Living

Hi — I’m Andy 👋

I started Save Wise Living after buying an old house on the River Clyde just outside Glasgow and spending my first winter absolutely freezing.

The house was cold, the heating bills were eye-watering with my bills only rising, and most of the “save money at home” advice I found online seemed to be written for modern, well-insulated homes in the south of England — not a draughty older property where the windows run with condensation before October.

So I started figuring it out myself.

I’ve bled the radiators, sorted the heating timings, tracked down every draught and sealed it, and worked out which rooms actually needed heat and when. I’ve tested a heated airer to replace tumble drying. I’ve used a dehumidifier to deal with the window condensation that used to soak the sills every morning. I’ve switched to a slow cooker and air fryer for most cooking because the oven in an old house feels like heating the street. I’ve tried the draft excluders, the reusable covers, the insulated curtains — some work, some don’t, and I’ll tell you which is which.

Everything on Save Wise Living comes from that process: buying a house that needed work, having bills that needed cutting, and actually testing what makes a difference in a real UK home.

Not a showroom. Not a new-build. A real house, in a cold part of the country, with real problems.

If your home feels hard to keep warm, dry, or affordable — this site is built for exactly that.

Helping you save money without making life harder

Most of us aren’t trying to become energy experts or household efficiency ninjas. We just want:

  • Clothes that dry without the house feeling damp
  • Appliances that don’t quietly rinse our bank account
  • Bills that feel more predictable
  • Fewer decisions that feel confusing or rushed

Save Wise Living exists to make those everyday decisions simpler, calmer, and cheaper.

Instead of chasing perfection, the focus here is on small, sensible improvements — the kind that quietly add up over time without changing how you live.

Think: better choices, not bigger sacrifices.

Built for real UK homes (not showroom ones)

UK homes come with their own set of challenges — and most advice online forgets that.

We deal with:

  • Cold winters and damp air
  • Flats with limited space
  • Older housing layouts
  • Rising energy prices
  • Confusing tariffs and “energy-saving” claims

Save Wise Living is written specifically for UK households, with UK energy use, appliances, room sizes, and costs in mind.

If a tip only works in a massive, perfectly insulated house with unlimited space… it probably won’t make the cut here.

Straightforward advice, no scare tactics

You won’t find dramatic headlines telling you your home is “leaking money every second” or that you’re doing everything wrong.

This site keeps things:

  • Calm
  • Clear
  • Practical

If something saves money, I’ll explain why.
If something sounds clever but doesn’t really help, I’ll say that too.

And if the best solution is actually doing less, that’s sometimes the answer (yes, really).

How recommendations work (the honest version)

Some articles on Save Wise Living include product recommendations — but always with context.

Here’s how it works:

  • Some products are personally tested
  • Others are chosen through careful research, reviews, and real-world suitability
  • UK compatibility always comes first
  • Pros and cons are explained clearly

You’ll also see plenty of non-product advice. Sometimes the best fix isn’t buying anything — it’s just using what you already have a bit differently.

Some links may be affiliate links, meaning Save Wise Living may earn a small commission if you choose to buy through them. This doesn’t change the price you pay, and it helps keep the site running.

In short: recommendations are made to help readers, not to chase commissions.

“I’m figuring this out too” (and that’s intentional)

One thing I want to be upfront about:
Save Wise Living isn’t written from a place of “I’ve mastered everything”.

It’s written from the perspective of learning, testing, improving, and sharing.

A lot of people feel overwhelmed by rising costs and conflicting advice. The goal here isn’t to talk down to anyone — it’s to make things feel more manageable.

If something takes a bit of trial and error, that’s okay.
If you don’t overhaul everything at once, that’s normal.
If you just want one thing to work better this week, that’s enough.

(Progress beats perfection. Every time.)

Who this site is for

Save Wise Living is for people who want to:

  • Spend less on everyday household costs
  • Understand what actually uses electricity (and what doesn’t)
  • Dry laundry faster without freezing the house
  • Choose appliances with confidence
  • Make sensible changes that stick

It’s especially useful if you live in a flat, a smaller home, or anywhere that feels hard to keep warm, dry, or efficient.

If you’ve ever thought “surely someone has already worked this out” — that’s what this site is trying to be.

Built for the long term (not quick wins)

Save Wise Living isn’t a “post it and forget it” site.

Content is:

  • Updated as things change
  • Improved as understanding grows
  • Written to stay useful, not just trendy

Trusted UK sources are referenced where helpful, and advice stays grounded in reality — not marketing claims or hype.

The aim is simple: helpful information that still makes sense a year from now.

Thanks for being here

The same friendly cartoon character from the first image (short light-blonde hair, casual clothing, calm expression), now standing in a cosy UK home setting. He is gesturing in a welcoming way toward a sign or banner that says “Welcome to Save Wise Living”. The room feels warm, practical, and lived-in (laundry rack, kettle, soft lighting). Illustration style matches the first image exactly. Clean, modern, friendly, reassuring tone. Flat illustration style, no photorealism, no cluttered background.

If Save Wise Living helps you:

  • save a bit of money
  • feel more confident about household choices
  • make your home feel easier to run
  • or just feel less overwhelmed

…then it’s doing exactly what it set out to do.

You don’t need to do everything at once.
You don’t need to get it perfect.
You just need something that works.

Welcome to Save Wise Living 🙂
